Personalised canvas print ideas for the playroom

With the school holidays in sight, parents will soon have their hands full entertaining kids of all ages. Unfortunately, we can never be too sure of the weather here in the UK, so we’ve put together these artwork ideas to help you make the playroom a place of fun and interest.

These personalised canvas print suggestions incorporate an educational aspect or a fun activity you can do together as a family, giving you plenty of ways to fill rainy days creatively!

Photo-booth prints

Top of our list of fun things to do is to set up your own photo-booth. We made a handy how-to article on this just last month, which you can read here. However, just to recap, the top things to remember are plenty of props and good light. You may even want to plan this is in as a playroom activity, making use of items in the toy box, collectively playing dress up and putting the kids to work painting background scenery!

Nature watch

Whether you’re taking a trip to the local park or just spending time in the garden, there are lots of great opportunities for nature-based family photography sessions. Take a look at our flower photography guide for tips on where to start with flora and fauna and get up close and personal with nature. You’ll find lots of helpful tips on how to identify and log back garden nature on the RSPB website. Start by identifying trees, birds and creepy crawlies and consider how you might present them on canvas. When you create your custom canvas print, you might choose to make a storyboard of the activity session or to group different items you’ve identified to display on the walls. Why not layer the names of the subjects of the photographs over the top? This way, you can create attractive artwork that also helps children learn.

Childrens’ drawings

Although we specialise in producing archival quality canvas prints here at Parrot Print, our canvasses can be used for all sorts of display purposes. One popular use for our canvas prints is as an alternative way to show off kids’ drawings. Transferring sketches, paintings and scribblings to canvas will help them survive a lot longer than simply sticking them to the fridge and should hopefully inspire during future playtimes too. Plus, children love seeing their artwork on display. Just be careful to hang out of reach so they don’t feel tempted to make some additions to their earlier works! If your little ones are fans of painting portraits of family members or recreating local landscapes, why not create a split canvas that juxtaposes their efforts with a photo of the original?

Nursery rhyme and story quotes

You do need to be a bit careful about copyright when reproducing quotes, however, most nursery rhymes and fairy stories are copyright free. Why not choose a quote from your child’s favourite work of literature and print it to canvas? You might layer the words over a photograph that reflects the subject matter or task the kids with creating accompanying art that you can use alongside the quote. Let your collective imaginations run riot!

Do you have plans for the school holidays already? Will you be introducing the children to photography? If you have any questions for our photography experts or any suggestions for summer schedules, feel free to leave us a comment below!
