Make a Feature of Your Custom Canvas Prints

All of our custom canvas prints are supplied on pine gallery films with corner wedges and hidden staples to help make them robust and easy to hang. However, just because they come ready to hang doesn’t mean you can’t have a bit of fun to make a feature framing them creatively yourself.

Today’s blog post explores how to make the most of your personalised canvas prints, whatever size they are. Here we talk fun framing ideas and feature walls…

Design your display

If you have a number of prints to arrange on one wall it’s worth taking a bit of time mapping out where you would like them to hang. Think about which colours and shapes work next to each other and whether you want your wall to look uniform or more relaxed.  Another option is to hang your canvas indirectly – either by using shelving to hold your prints or displaying them in a shadow box. You’ll find these boxes available to purchase in most UK department stores now or you can have a go at making your own and backing the box with printed paper.

Murals and montage

Making your customised canvas part of a larger piece of wall art may not seem like an obvious thing to do at first, but it is especially fun and can help you take a feature wall to the next level. Think about putting the objects in your photos back in their natural setting: paint trees and place bird prints in them, put shells back on the beach or take it a little surreal and paint your own family tree complete with canvas print portraits. These are all great ideas for decorating your playroom and you can find a few more of them in our recent post on creative prints for the playroom.

Frivolous frames

Designing your own frame directly on the wall allows you to play around with light and texture. This is a real opportunity to raid your craft box and you might choose to frame with colours and textures that contrast with those displayed on your canvas. Materials you can play around with are string lights, beads and feathers and if you are a bit of a DIY whizz, it is possible to stud your print with lights.

Bold blocking

In the home, a traditional feature wall is often painted with a bold colour, helping the wall stand out.  This technique can be used to give prints their own gallery and highlight particular images and it’s also very easy and cheap to do! Think about hanging each print within a block of colour that contrasts with the rest of the wall. Black and white images can make a strong impact against a monochrome design.
