Can smartphones really produce SLR quality?

What if we told you that a lens the size of a grain of sand could capture the same quality photos as an SLR camera? It’s a little unbelievable, but we’re really excited to announce there’s been some impressive new developments in the technology world, and they come in the form of metalens. So can smartphones really produce SLR quality?

Metalens have been developed to change the way light is angled into a camera sensor. At the moment our camera lens have to be 100 per cent perfect to take even a semi-decent photo, however, with this new technology smartphones will be ditching this type of lens for 2mm constructed lenses made from quartz and a tiny titanium oxide array.

If this all sounds a little too technical, it basically means smartphones will soon have a camera that will work a little like a massive lens to the front of it because the quality of the photos is going to be far superior than what we’re used to.

Although these brand new lenses are still in the process of being developed and tested, here at Parrot Print we can’t wait for the launch, as we’re huge fans of using smartphones to create amazing canvas prints.

Don’t get us wrong, we love our DSLRs, and the extensive range of accessories that you can purchase to enhance your photos, but there’s nothing quite like the ease and functionality of a smartphone.

Editorial-worthy Fashion Photos
If you don’t think you can create editorial-worthy photographs using just your smartphone, think again. This is actually how a lot of professional photographers and bloggers make their money. The only piece of equipment they carry around is their smartphone, and maybe a charger or battery pack. A lot of fashion photographers capture catwalk shows and instantly upload them to media sites or even their own personal Instagram accounts, and from the amount of likes and expose they receive, it’s clear that a smartphone can deliver a striking and high-quality image.

Feed-ruling Foodie Snaps
Everyone loves a good Instagram food picture, and most of the time they’re taken on smartphones without any editing. We’re sure all you food-lovers will have mastered the lighting and plate setting, but just think how striking the #fdbloggers hashtag is going to look when the metalens makes it's way into our phones. These photos will truly look good enough to eat!

Of course, you can already produce custom canvas prints that are great quality using smartphone snaps. Just pick out an image and upload here - just two clicks away. We don’t know about you, but we can’t wait for these to arrive!

What do you think about this new technology? Do you think you’ll put down your camera and pick up your smartphone to capture your photos? Don’t forget to share your food and fashion images with us on Twitter and Facebook.
