Fun Freshers on Photo Canvas Ideas
Across the UK thousands of freshers started university this week. Along with standing in enrolment queues, getting lost en route to lectures and experiencing the freedom of being away from home for potentially the first time, these student newbies will likely find themselves the subject of many, many photographs. Here are a few ways of recreating your freshers on photo canvas.
As being snapped during student life is almost inevitable, we’ve decided to offer up some helpful advice for how to best capture, share and creatively use fresher photos.
Taking smartphone photos in a club
There’s actually evidence to suggest using your smartphone in the dark for a prolonged amount of time could be bad for you, so you may want to avoid getting too snap happy in the club. That said, taking a group photo or a selfie or two is pretty much a rite of passage during freshers week. For tips selfie-taking tips, check out our History of the selfie post.
One of the main problems with using the camera on a lot of smartphones (such as an iPhone) in clubs is that the flash on the cameras often doesn’t light up until the last moment, making it hard to tell if everyone is in the shot and smiling. There are a few solutions for this; you can take a test shot and simply repeat; you can select video mode and then snap a screenshot or you can download an app like NightCap or CameraFXPro to help you improve light levels and exposure.
Social media settings
If you find your face makes its way into photographs you’d rather people didn’t see social media can suddenly become the enemy. To protect your image - and potentially future career opportunities - make sure you familiarize yourself with Facebook’s photography privacy settings.
Using Instagram to capture special moments means you’ll be able to share photos with friends instantly, edit them in a way you’re happy with and turn them into canvas wall art later with our canvas builder. If Instagram is your social platform and photography partner of choice, be mindful of security, particularly if you’re tagging with hashtags that might bring the attention of strangers. Ponder whether you should switch your account settings to private to control who sees your images and be considerate of the preferences of others who might not want their photos published in cyberspace.
Moments to capture
Freshers week is a time for making new friends and discovering where your future favourite haunts will be. You’ll find there are lots of firsts you want to capture on film and many of the resulting photos will end up adorning your walls in shared digs throughout your student dorm. From your first night in halls or shared house through to your first fancy dress trip, there are plenty of opportunities to take action photos that you’ll treasure for years to come. It’s not all fun though - there are other moments you may want to capture to promote future harmony too! Why not take a snap of your house rules or cleaning schedule and transfer the image to canvas to display in a shared space to avoid future quibbles?
